Support Mercer Nursing in the Suicide Awareness Walk

As one of our service projects this year, the Pi Gamma At-Large Chapter of Sigma is collaborating with current Georgia Baptist College of Nursing students to support the “Out of the Darkness Suicide Awareness Walk” to raise awareness and funds for suicide prevention.

This event takes place on this SATURDAY, April 11, 2026 on the Mercer University Macon campus. Place to meet is the Cruz Plaza- 1501 Mercer University Dr, Macon, GA

Check-in at 10:00 a.m. Walk at 11:00 a.m.

This walk is one of the most attended walks in Mercer history with a record-breaking number of donations obtained. The event has raised over $11,000 to date.

All Pi Gamma At-Large Chapter members are invited to participate in this service project. If you are unable to participate in the actual walk, you can still support the Nursing team through a donation. All donations help fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy, and support survivors of suicide loss. Any donation amount can make a difference. Many of us have been impacted by suicide both personally and professionally; thus, this walk is an opportunity to give back and support others. Every step we take together helps reduce stigma and save lives.

Dear Pi Gamma at-Large Members, 

I hope this message finds you well. I would like to invite you to join us for our upcoming Pi Gamma at-Large Chapter Member Meeting on Wednesday, March 18th, at 6:00 PM (ET) via Zoom.

We are excited to welcome Dr. Joy Fernandez de Narayan, who will present on "A Collaborative Approach to Integrating HIV Care into a Street Medicine Primary Care Model."

Joy Fernandez de Narayan, DNP, FNP-C is a family nurse practitioner based in Atlanta, GA. After moving to metro Atlanta from Miami in high school, she graduated with her BSN in 2010 from Kennesaw State University, followed by her MSN in 2012 from Emory University. After 5 years of clinical practice at Mercy Care, she graduated with her DNP with a concentration in health systems leadership in 2018. At that time, Dr. Fernandez de Narayan continued to provide primary care at Mercy Care on the Street Medicine team while also leading the organization’s Street Medicine, Community Homeless Outreach, and Integrated Care Permanent Support Housing Programs until 2025. In 2026, she transitioned to a full-time faculty position at the Georgia Baptist College of Nursing of Mercer University. She maintains a weekly day of clinical practice at Mercy Care with a continued focus on those experiencing unsheltered homelessness. When not working, Dr. Fernandez de Narayan enjoys spending time on her small farm with her husband of 10 years and menagerie of small and large animals. She enjoys gardening, reading, and generally being outside. Dr. Fernandez de Narayan finds her purpose and motivation deeply rooted in her Christian faith and continues to look for creative ways to further Christ's healing ministry at home and abroad.

The Susan Sweat Gunby Excellence in Nursing Award by the Pi Gamma at-Large Chapter is given to acknowledge an outstanding member whose contributions fulfill the goals of Sigma Theta Tau International (STTI). Nominations are only accepted from Pi Gamma at-Large dhapter members.

The Fall 2025 new member luncheon will be hosted in room 137 of the College of Nursing.  All members are encouraged to attend and meet our newest incoming members to the chapter.  Pizza will be served to all.  No RSVP required. 

New Members will be inducted into the Chapter and the Organization
